Join YPLC for its last "101" of the season: Jazz 101 featuring the Sammy Miller Jazz Quintet. A brilliant young jazz musician, Sammy will present "An Evening of Joyful Jazz". From Duke Ellington to Art Blakey, Louis Armstrong to Sonny Rollins, these jazz masters used their music to brighten up the day of others. With Sammy on drums, his fellow musicians Alphonso Horne (trumpet), Ben Flocks (tenor saxophone), Chris Pattishall (piano) and Josh Crumbly (bass) will explore the music of these jazz greats. Co-hosted by Carbon Club NYC, this event is sure to be a glamorous and entertaining affair.

A native of Los Angeles, Sammy Miller has become known for his unique maturity and relentless focus on making music that "feels good" as a drummer, singer and bandleader. At the ripe old age of 21, Sammy has performed/recorded with Wynton Marsalis, Christian Scott, Bobby Watson, Johnny O'Neal, David Benoit, Ozomotli and Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens - at venues across the globe, including the White House, the Bern Jazz Festival and the Hollywood Bowl. In the Jazz World, Sammy has been recognized with a number of honors, including the Los Angeles Jazz Society's Shelly Manne Award, the Dolo Coker Scholarship and the 2009 Los Angeles Center's Spotlight Award. Upon completing his undergraduate degree from The New School, Sammy now resides in New York, where he is pursuing his Master's at The Juilliard School.
