Meet The Artist Saturdays
Drop Me Off in Harlem
The National Jazz Museum in Harlem All-Stars bring the sounds of Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and the rhythm of iconic tap dancer Bill “Bojangles” Robinson to Meet The Artist Saturdays. This interactive program will have families scatting, swinging, and tapping with the help of renowned jazz historian and saxophonist Loren Schoenberg, and sensational tap artist Andrew Nemr. The Children’s Museum of Manhattan will host a free “make your own tap shoes” workshop for children before the show, and the performance also includes a Q & A session with the artists.
In collaboration with Children’s Museum of Manhattan and The National Jazz Museum in Harlem

Tift Meritt
David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center, Frieda and Roy Furman Stage (Broadway bet. 62nd & 63rd St.)
“Merritt’s achingly beautiful country-tinged tunes hark back to the musical work of Joni Mitchell, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Leonard Cohen,” said Time magazine of her work. The North Carolina native weaves country with threads of gospel, soul, ‘70s pop, and folk to create her Americana and Grammy–nominated sound.

Roots of American Music Symposium and Lincoln Center Out of Doors
SiriusXM’s Buddy & Jim Show at 1 pm
Talkin’ Blues at 2:15 pm
Heroes of Americana at 3:30 pm
David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center, Frieda and Roy Furman Stage (Broadway bet. 62nd & 63rd St.)
This rare afternoon with some of the greatest musical giants of Americana’s last fifty years, starts off with a live taping of the popular weekly Buddy & Jim Show from SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country Channel, hosted by the duo of singer/songwriters Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale. It is followed by Talkin’ Blues, a conversation with Beverly “Guitar” Watkins, who set the stage on fire in the 50’s with James Brown and others; Ironing Board Sam, described as “a somewhat saner Screamin’ Jay Hawkins;” and Dom Flemmons, slide-banjo player and founding member of the Grammy Award-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops. The event will be moderated by Tim Duffy, president of the Music Maker Relief Foundation, which is dedicated to supporting the musical traditions of the South and the musicians who play it. The Symposium winds up with a screening of Heroes of Americana: From the Historic Films Archives, featuring short performance clips by such icons as Hank Williams, Emmylou Harris, and Gram Parsons from the collection of archivist Joe Lauro, who will introduce the films.

Cardinal Sons
David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center, Frieda and Roy Furman Stage (Broadway bet. 62nd & 63rd St.)
The Cardinal Sons trio traveled to New York City last year for the NewSong Mountain Stage competition, a national songwriting and live performance contest. When the group won, one of its awards was this Target Free Thursdays engagement at Lincoln Center. Balancing heavy synth lines and crunchy guitar with steady drums, the three brothers of Cardinal Sons—John, Joe, and Dave—play danceable, folky, indie rock along with three-part harmonies and a left hand for a bass player. The music blends a sound steeped in the musical identity of the brothers’ Mississippi upbringing and their current home in New Orleans.
Presented in collaboration with NewSong Music and Red Jacket Orchards

Cynthia Sayer, Jazz banjo
"She can really play,” said jazz great Marian McPartland about Cynthia Sayer, considered by the Chicago Tribune to be “among a small group at the top of the jazz banjo world." Cynthia began playing the banjo at age 13, and though she chose a musical career over law school—much to her parents chagrin—it was clearly the right choice. Cynthia was a member of Woody Allen’s jazz band for more than 10 years, has played for two U.S. presidents, and performed at Carnegie Hall and with the New York Philharmonic.

Molissa Fenley: Dance an Impossible Space
When Molissa Fenley planned the premiere of her Dance an Impossible Space at the Bogliasco Center last year, she choreographed the work with a very small space in mind. Somehow, Fenley seems to ricochet seamlessly from the perimeter on one side of the space to the other, using gesture and motion as if there are no boundaries at all.
