The Marvin Sewell Group
Guitarist, composer, and producer Marvin Sewell and his five-piece group play jazz-blues-funk-alternative and world fusion in small clubs and major concerts halls around the world. No less an authority than jazz legend Pat Metheny has said of Sewell, “He plays great, has an original style and the skill and spirit to make slide guitar work in a jazz environment at the highest level while sounding absolutely authentic.”

Satchiko Ito and Company
The color, energy, and sheer beauty of Japan’s most venerable kabuki company, Heisei Nakamura-za, returns to Lincoln Center Festival this month with the revival of a 19th century ghost story (The Ghost Tale of the Wet Nurse Tree). To familiarize audiences with the centuries-old art form of kabuki, Satchiko Ito and Company will perform Japanese dance of that era in a format especially designed for families. The presentation will include a demonstration of various walking styles used by characters in Kabuki plays, as well how to use a dance fan stage prop. Ito’s Company—dedicated to creating a bridge between east and west through the arts—has performed at the Asia Society, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Kennedy Center.

Hailu Mergia and Low Mentality
The Ethiopian-born, Washington-based keyboardist comes to Lincoln Center after an almost 30-year hiatus, during which he stopped performing live and supported himself by driving a Dulles Airport cab. He joins forces with guitarist Nikhil P. Yerawadekar and his Brooklyn-based Afrobeat band Low Mentality at this performance, adding guitars, horns and live percussion to the music that attracted a Western cult audience after his 1985 album, Hailu Mergia and His Classical Instrument—originally available only in Mergia’s homeland—was re-issued in the United States in 2012.

Ani Cordero
"...downright gorgeous Latin-tinged indie-rock. Ani sings like an angel crying into her drink," said The Chicago Reader of the artist’s first solo album, Recordar, a highly praised CD of songs that shaped the history of Latin America in the second half of the 20th century. Raised between Atlanta and San Juan by Puerto Rican parents, Ani Cordero is a world music singer, drummer, and front-woman for her bi-lingual art rock band called “Cordero.” The songs she and the group perform raise awareness about social change in Latin America.
